Duck

So I am using a cheapo 60€ phone. For me a phone barely more than a communicator and music player, I don't actually need yet another personal computer, so it would be pretty silly to invest in something better.

As expected, its camera is pretty bad. So bad in fact, that it even struggles to scan QR codes about half of the time (which is less bad than it sounds: realistically there aren't that many relevant QR codes anyway, at least not in my life).

However, once in a while it takes pictures that are actually pretty nice. Way better than they have any right to be, considering the hardware. Today this happened again, when on my way home I saw this duck chilling on this wall.

I was rather close to the duck, about 1,5 meters. I did not try to get much closer, because I can't imagine the duck would habe been particularly impressed. But it was close enough for this amazing shot.

True, it would have been better with a "real" camera, but nonetheless, it came out nice. The picture above is scaled down of course (email me if you want the original file), but you can still see the ducks "fuzzy-ness".

Yeah, this article doesn't really have a point; I have a cool duck picture and wanted to share. That's it.

vm.overcommit_memory=2 is always the right setting for servers

The Linux kernel has a feature where you can tune the behavior of memory allocations: the vm.overcommit_memory sysctl. When overcommit is enabled (sadly, this is the default), the kernel will typically return a mapping when brk(2) or mmap(2) is called to…
